Nike had conditions before giving Michael Jordan a record contract:
Either be rookie of the year, or average 20 points per game, or be an all-star, or sell $4 mill worth of shoes in a year.
Jordan was rookie of the year ✅
Scored 28.2 points per game ✅
Named an all-star ✅
Nike sold $100 mill of shoes in 84-85 ✅
I bought two pairs of Air Jordan 1s that first year, 1984-85, which was my senior year in high school. I couldn't make up my mind which to pick - the white ones or the black ones. After about thirty minutes of me going back and forth, my mom said, "Just get both."
I love you Mom!
